The Free Google Tool Most Businesses Ignore
A Google Business Profile costs nothing and takes an hour. For a business that serves a specific place, it is often the highest return hour you will spend online.
Someone in Osu opens their phone and searches for a dentist near me. Google does not show them the prettiest website. It shows them a map, three businesses, and their opening hours, ratings and phone numbers.
That box is a Google Business Profile. It is free. Claiming yours takes about an hour, and for a business that serves a specific place it is frequently worth more than any other hour you will spend online.
Most businesses here have never claimed one. Some do not know it exists. Others have a profile Google generated automatically, sitting there with the wrong hours and no photographs, quietly telling customers you are closed when you are open.
Start by searching for your own business name. If a panel appears, the profile exists and you need to claim it. If nothing appears, create one. Either way Google will verify you, usually by posting a code or calling the number.
Then do the parts most people skip. Add real photographs rather than stock images. Set your hours precisely, including public holidays. Write the description for a human, not for a search engine. Pick the most specific category available rather than the broadest one.
Ask satisfied customers for reviews, and reply to every one, including the unhappy ones. A calm, specific reply to a bad review does more for you than ten good reviews, because it shows a future customer how you behave when something goes wrong.
Keep it current. Post when hours change, when you add a service, when you move. A profile updated this month ranks better than one abandoned two years ago, and it tells a customer you are still trading.
None of this needs a developer. It needs an hour and the discipline to keep it accurate.
